We are a family owned Mexican Restaurant that has been around for over 25 years. Locals love coming to our location because of our friendly staff, and our delicious tasting food. If you want to just have a drink our bartenders make amazing cocktails and will make sure you have a great time.

History

Established in 1985.
El Portal started over 25 years ago in a small location on Ming Ave. As it quickly became a local favorite the owners were able to expand the location to accommodate more guest. As our town of Bakersfield grew we noticed a lot of request to open a location towards the west side. So, here we are.

  Good tacos, decent size 'mini' chimichangas, good chips and salsa and you also get bean dip. Nice restaurant with attentive staff. It was our first time there and the food was pretty good. They would get 5 stars if their steak fajitas were better. They were ok but can no way compare to Los Molcajete, Don Perico or Don Pepe's. They weren't spicy and didn't have that charred flavor most have. No *zing*. Otherwise, prices were ok. Not cheap but it didn't break the bank. We'll be back to try more items. I hear the fried ice cream is awesome.

  The service is good and the Seafood is well cooked. Especially like the Camarones a la Diabla. Nice flavor and I hear the Cantina is fun for Taco Tuesday.

  Love this place. Food is excellent. The last time I was there I ordered one of their specialty margaritas, a Cucumber Curler Margarita, wow! That was so good!!! The servers are wonderful.
